Description
Digital photographs documenting Clouds & Water Gallery and Visual Production Society : A brief history of TNG 1975-2010. This exhibition of historic posters and promotional material was produced by The New Gallery, and displayed in TNG's +15 Window located in the Epcor Centre, Calgary, from January 1 to 31, 2009. Over the course of the four weeks, the exhibition grew and changed, highlighting the different names and locations of the gallery.

2010 marked The New Gallery's 35th year of presenting contemporary art in Calgary. Like the few other artist-run centres in Canada which have endured as long, TNG's history is characterized by multiple locations; more uniquely though, many buildings that the Gallery has occupied were demolished behind it, making way for new development. Characterizing the life of Calgary's original artist-run centre in light of its five different physical locations around the downtown core acknowledges one of the persistent challenges TNG has faced and frames some of the many achievements of the non-profit organization since 1975.

TNG was founded as the Clouds and Water Gallery, and incorporated as the Clouds and Water Gallery and Visual Production Society in 1976. This society still operates TNG. The Gallery was known as Clouds and Water from 1974-79, and as Off Centre Centre from 1980-87. It has been known as The New Gallery since then.
